Ressesion Facelift, Feel pretty for under $20

Posted March 13th, 2009 by Kimmy McAtee · No Comments

I am hairy. Like a monkey. It has its ups. My hair is long, it grows fast. So do my nails. But lets talk about the eyebrows. Yea, not the cutest. My whole adult life I have been plucking and waxing, then going back to plucking.. then I went and saw my current esthetician, Mari. Or whom I like to call her my hair removing fairy godmother. Literally I never thought a brow wax could save your life. I went to her twice. The first time people said things like Oh did you lose weight, and oh you look great. I thought it was in my head. Then it happened again, and then again the next time. So basically what I am hear to say is a good eyebrow wax is like a facelift for under $20. Go find Mari. She works at model call salon - and if you mention me you get 1/2 off these magical eyebrow waxes.

Padres to be sold to former Diamondbacks CEO Jeff Moorad over 5 years

Posted February 4th, 2009 by Merrick Lozano · No Comments

Padres owner John Moores has reached a deal worth over $500 million to sell the team to Former Diamondbacks CEO Jeff Moorad over a period of up to 5 years . The deal was announced by the Padres on the Major League Baseball site earlier today.

“I anticipate that I’ll remain the control person for three years,” said Moores, who is going through a divorce and in need of some cash. Moorad will have up to five years to buy out the controlling interest from Moores who will continue to control the team until then. The deal is expected to be approved by other Major League Baseball owners so the main hurdle for the deal to go through will be financing.

It’s not entirely obvious why someone would want to buy the Padres right now after they lost 99 games last season, but MLB clubs have been lucrative investments that pay very well over time. John Moores $84 million purchase of the Padres in 1994 will yield him over a 500% return on investment.

Jeff Moorad is a former players agent who graduated from UCLA and earned his law degree from Villanova. He currently owns a share of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Workout tips that will help you with your New Year’s resolution

Posted January 1st, 2009 by Jen Correia · 1 Comment

If you are like me and many other people out there, it seems like the New Year is always a good time to start eating healthier, exercise more and take care of your body. Unfortunately, the good intentions seem to fall by the wayside about half the year through. I know that once I start seeing results, then that motivates me to want to exercise more and really take care of my body. After feeling sorry for myself, I made a decision to make quite a few changes in my life. Treating my body better was one of them.

To me, a gym can get boring and the workouts are just so….blegh! One day, I was driving down through Liberty Station in Point Loma and saw a sign for Bar Method. I went home, looked up the website and was really intrigued by their ‘method’ of exercise. It is basically Pilates, Yoga and Ballet all rolled into one. When I took a class for the first time, I could not believe how difficult, intense yet satisfying it was. Best of all, the class was not boring. I had the pleasure of meeting Allison McCurdy, owner of Bar Method in Liberty Station, and she has been a great part in helping me with my comeback figure. Yes, I call it a comeback figure because once you have seen what your body can look like on it’s best day, you want that back.

Since I have had the pleasure of knowing Allison, I realized how knowledgeable she was about exercise and her sensitivity towards people with injuries, etc. She really knows her stuff! So, I wanted to pick Allison’s brain to see if she could answer 9 questions about fitness to help those that want to lose weight or tone their bods in 2009!

New Years Eve Party Dresses

Posted December 30th, 2008 by Kimmy McAtee · 1 Comment

Photobucket

This year New Year’s Eve dresses are all about embellishments from Fringe to Sequins you can’t go wrong with that little black dress that has that little something extra. Last year i said Fringe, and you would think Minnitonka boots and fringed purses but this year its all about that 1920’s sex appeal. My first pick would be the handmade Eden dress from With Hearts in My eyes. The 22 inch fringe is hand dyed and the dresses are made to your body specifications. For something you can dress up or down try Betsey’s Fringe Skirt. Dress it up with a slinky cami or dress it down with a fitted vneck and some fun accessories. For the fashionable on a budget try Targets Limited Edition Go International Fringe Dress.

Somehow sequins have always meant NYE to me. Maybe it’s the resemblance to a disco ball but it seems there is always that girl at the party so shiny she screams Hey come look at me! For me sequins have to be placed with care. Try this Charlotte Ronson racerback dress. The sequins are minimal yet sexy with a racerback and low cut front and the wool of the dress makes it warm enough to wear without that giant winter shrug. For those with a high budget this NYE check out Marc for Marc Jacobs Karly Special Dress. With it’s price tag over $500 this asymmetrical dress is not for the meek. For those who would like there one time wear dress to cost less than a ticket to the gaslamps clubs check out Forever 21’s sequin mini dress with sleeve embellishments.

Chargers win over the Broncos puts them in the playoffs

Posted December 28th, 2008 by Merrick Lozano · No Comments

The Chargers treated fans to a 52 - 21 win over the Denver Broncos tonight. Amazing. What else can you say about a team that had a record of 4-8 just 4 weeks ago. Perseverance and some help from other teams including the Broncos gave the Chargers one last opportunity tonight to punch their ticket into the playoffs and they rose to the challenge.

The offense was productive all the way around. Philip Rivers set the record for most touchdowns in a season with 34, overtaking Dan Fouts record. LaDainian Tomlinson had three rushing touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury. Darren Sproles had 2 touchdowns one in the air and another on the ground. Jacob Hester had a rushing touchdown and Nate Kaeding kicked a field goal. The defense did a great job of killing any momentum the Broncos were mustering when Luis Castillo picked off Cutler’s deflected pass and later when Paul Oliver picked one in the end zone.

If you were looking for the Chargers to avenge a loss to Denver earlier this season where the referees made some bad calls, this was as sweet as it gets. Philip Rivers will not be starting in the Pro Bowl in February but he will be starting in a playoff game next week in January and as he said “everyone is 0-0 now.”

The Chargers will face the Indianapolis Colts Saturday in San Diego at 5PM Pacific Time. Tickets will be available for purchase at the ticket office and online tomorrow. Go Chargers!!!

‘Open Door Sessions’ at X1FM.com, a local music show with a twist

Posted December 3rd, 2008 by Jen Correia · No Comments

There are local shows that have been supporting local bands in San Diego for years. Now, X1FM.com has joined the ranks of these local supporters and are inviting local bands to perform on their new local music show called Open Door Sessions. With a brand new performance studio, host Andrew Wehrung will make the bands feel right at home.

Open Door Sessions is a local music show with a twist. The show kicks off with an hour of local music from 6p to 7p then, a FREE in-studio performance from 7p to 8p by the featured local band of the week. This is an excellent opportunity for bands to get both video and audio of their performance AND have a few of their friends and fans enjoy the live performance.

X1FM created a 100% interactive “LIVE” broadband radio station, which is an audio and visual experience that transforms the old concept of what is traditional terrestrial radio to another level of communication. It is pretty cool because it is essentially a “Live Digital Broadband Radio” which is a revolutionary concept and vision that is the first of it’s kind on the world wide web.

Local bands can send their demos and requests to play a session to:
Andrew Wehrung
c/o X1FM Radio.com
2434 Southport Way, Ste. A
San Diego, CA 91950

Log on to: www.x1fm.com this Friday, December 5 to experience the first Open Door Session. Get Back Loretta is the first local band to step foot on our new stage and no other station or local music show has done anything like this before!

To get up close and personal, you can come down and enjoy a FREE show at the X1FM studios located at: 2434 Southport Way, Ste. A, San Diego, CA.

Support local music!
