Kyocera Giving Away Free Headsets Today at Dave & Busters

Posted June 30th, 2008 by Merrick Lozano · 1 Comment

In advance of the new California state law requiring hands-free phone devices while driving, Kyocera announced they will be giving away free headsets at the Mission Valley Dave & Busters parking lot from 11:30AM - 1:30PM.

A new California state law makes that goes into effect Tuesday states that all drivers 18 and older must use hands-free devices when talking on cell phones . Drivers under 18 cannot use cell phones or send text messages.

If are going to be purchasing a hands-free device soon, here are a few tips to consider when selecting one.

  • Get a Bluetooth headset if your phone supports it.
  • Ask if it has noise cancellation, otherwise the people you call will hear loud background noise and will want to cut your calls short
  • Compare the talk time and standby time of the devices you like.
  • Try them on. Mimic your typical walking / running pace to make sure it does not fall off. See if it comes with interchangeable ear buds so you can get a more comfortable fit in your ear

Tiger Woods Still Perfect, Wins U.S. Open

Posted June 16th, 2008 by Merrick Lozano · No Comments

Tiger Woods hung on long enough today, against Rocco Mediate, to win the U.S. Open and his 14th major championship while sharing the lead after 54 holes. Rocco Mediate made one of the most remarkable runs down the stretch, having been down 3 strokes today and then coming into the 18th hole ahead by one. Unfortunately for Rocco, Tiger Woods drove it longer on the 18th and tied it up.

After 18 holes, it was sudden death time and Tiger hung on longer than Rocco, who hit into the sand trap and then the gallery. Rocco had an opportunity to extend play by making his putt on the 7th hole, 19th hole played. After Rocco missed, Tiger claimed his 7th win at Torrey Pines, and his 3rd U.S. Open title today.

Tiger began fighting for the victory on Saturday with two eagles on the back nine, and Sunday by making a long put on the 18th hole to force an 18 hole playoff with Rocco Mediate today. What makes this win even more remarkable is Tiger Woods had surgery on his knee 8 weeks ago. In an interview after the match, Tiger said he will not play for a while to let his knee heal.

Tiger Woods Claims Lead at the 108th US Open in Torrey Pines

Posted June 15th, 2008 by Merrick Lozano · No Comments

Happy Fathers Day. Unfortunately for San Diego golf fans, natives Phil Mickelson and Pat Perez will not share the spotlight at the 108th US Open at Torrey Pines. Heading into the final day, Tiger Woods leads the field at 3-under-par with only Lee Westwood and Rocco Mediate having shot under-par after 3 rounds. Pat Perez and Phil Mickelson are both tied for 51st place at 9-over-par.

Despite Tiger Woods having arthroscopic surgery April, and not playing for eight weeks, he has managed to claim the lead after making eagles on the back nine Friday and Saturday. While Tiger’s swing maybe rusty from his ailing knee, he is sure to put on a performance today, Tiger has won all 13 major championships when leading heading into the fourth round.

Live Coverage begins at 11AM on NBC
