‘Commune Wednesdays’ is a successful monthly event put on by Ashley Gneiting and Jenny Kondrasky. Last month the event was held at The Whistle Stop. This time around the gals decided to bring their monthly music, art and fashion collective to Bar Pink Elephant.
Don’t miss Atoms (who put on a great show if you have not seen them already), a DJ set by Sassy Boys (who get your booty shakin’) and a designer trunk show by Dekline (who have some kick ass gear)! You can also get a limited edition ‘Commune Wednesdays’ Dekline t-shirt.
The event is FREE, so unless you have something pressing to do, there is no excuse.
Bar Pink Elephant - 3829 30th St., Wednesday April 30, 9pm - 21+
P.S. You can look in the Sandiegoish archives and find an interview I did with the band called Atoms.

Radiohead appears to have inspired many musicians with last years free giveaway. Shortly after the October release of In Rainbows, Trent Reznor told his fans to steal it and Reznor later released an album he produced, from rapper Saul Williams, for free.

Unfortunately, The Creepy Creeps had to cancel their show at Bar Pink Elephant tonight. One of the band members (Aaron) was in a motorcycle accident and broke his wrist. Wish him a speedy recovery!
There are a few things that are going on tonight in good ol’ San Diego. So if you are not going to Coachella, fret not, there are some good shows and fun things to do here in town.
First, an all ages affair, The Silent Comedy and Crash Encore command your attention at The Che Cafe. The Silent Comedy recently played an unforgettable show at U31, definitely worth checking out. And I have written an article about Crash Encore in the past, another good local band.

A swimmer was killed by a shark this morning off the coast of Solana Beach near Fletcher Cove. The attack happened at approximately 7am this morning. Swimmers are ordered out of the water within a 17 mile radius until further notice. They are currently searching for the shark by helicopter (which is the best way to sight them). More on the story courtesy of the LA Times.
Carlos Fuentes, one of Mexico’s best known writers and novelists, will be speaking at UCSD tonight. UC San Diego’s Center for the Humanities in conjunction with the Consulado de Mexico en San Diego,
present Carlos Fuentes: “Globalization: A New Deal For A New Age” at the Mandeville Auditorium at 7pm.
For more than 40 years, as a novelist, essayist, scholar and diplomat, Fuentes has focused on the identity of his home country and on its relationship with the United States and the world. His lectures are as current as daily newspaper headlines and imbued with a marvelous sense of history. “Culture is the product of many races and many traditions.,” he has written. “We are all descendants of Greeks and Romans, Arabs and Jews. We must examine those roots to discover who we are today.”
In speaking on the new world order in the age of globalization, Fuentes explores responsibilities and opportunities for all on either side of the economic divide. A self-described optimist, Fuentes will bring a new perspective to current debates.
Fuentes is an independent political voice with an instinct for social justice. As the son of a Mexican diplomat, he spent most of his childhood in Washington, DC. After earning his law degree, he served in a number of governmental posts, including Mexican Ambassador to France. Fuentes has been a visiting professor at Princeton and is currently professor-at-large at Brown University.
