Mimi&Red is a cute boutique that just opened in North Park at 3032 University Ave in April. A unique boutique that carries high end denim and low end tops and dresses. Michelle and Rhonda are the owners and you can tell a lot of heart soul and style went into making this boutique.

We have an exclusive Sandiegoish interveiw with them where we grill them on whats the hottest trends and learn what North park has to offer fashionistas and partiers alike in the next few weeks.

What made you decide to start Mimi & Red?

We wanted to do our own thing-and shop for all the things we love

How did you ladies meet?

Michelle came in my old store I owned in the 90′s and I asked her who did her tattoo-we became fast friends.

My favorite part about your store is that you carry both high and low end products. Not many boutiques do this – do you think it sets you apart from other San Diego boutiques?

We felt people don’t mind paying more for a good pair of jeans or a great piece of jewelry but keep the price low for the trendy stuff.

I hear you guys are going to be carrying Betsey Johnson bags and eye wear soon. What other brands in the store right now are you particularly excited about?

We love the sexy dresses by Fighting Eel and Nu Collective. Our new Blank Jeans are selling well and RVCA always has cute stuff. We also carry BB Dakota and Rebecca Beeson.

Tell me about this great event you have coming up – Pay it FourWard.

We are working with the other boutiques in the neighborhood to bring a once a month charity event. The first one is Sunday, August 19th-from 2-7 all four boutiques (Kate Ross, Material, Mesh and ourselves) will have in-store events and 10% of all sales will go to “Home Start”-for child abuse prevention. We will be having a Jewelry Trunk Show, Mesh is having a 1 year anniversary tented Trunk Show, Kate is having live models and Material is running a raffle.

I hear you are also doing something at Hawthorns next week? What is that about?

It’s a fashion show with the other neighborhood stores-it’s called “State of Grace-Beneath the Silver Moon”. It’s at 9pm, Djs, drinks, etc..

For only opening this April you have been involved in a lot of events in the community. Which ones have been your favorites so far?

All of them have been fun-we like to keep busy and get our name out there.

Who are your style icons?

I think we would both agree on old movie stars-Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, etc.

Who is the typical Mimi & Red customer?

So far, there isn’t one-we have all ages and styles shopping here>>

I know you carry Pony Attack!! Are there other local brands that you are carrying?

We have a couple of jewelry lines- Jeweliany and Sonnie Owens-in fact, that’s the jewelry trunk show on the 19th.

What is your favorite trend for Fall o7?

The clutch handbag.

What 3 things do you think every lady should have in their wardrobe right now?
Great pair of jeans, fitted blouse and a clutch purse>

Any last words?

Shop Mimi & Red!
