Summer is here and a perfect way to spend an evening with your family and friends is watching a film under the stars! The San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park is featuring films on Thursday evenings from the end of July through August. All films can be enjoyed by adults and children 7 and up (considering most the films are PG). This year SDMA is featuring four films that each has a scene in a museum. The first film of the series is the 1938 film Bringing Up Baby - starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant and will be shown on Thursday, July 26.
The cool thing is, it’s free and for those that are 21 and up, you can bring alcohol. However, once the film starts at 8:00pm you are cut off. According to the SDMA website they offer this disclaimer - Please note: no glass is allowed in city parks; alcoholic beverages are not permitted after 8:00 p.m.; dogs on leashes are welcome.
Grab a blanket and some appetizers and head to the museum’s East Lawn this Thursday. Seating is first-come, first-served; so arrive early to claim your spot. For further information call 619.232.7931 or log onto: http://www.sdmart.org
In case you are too lazy to look it up, here is the schedule:
Bringing Up Baby (1938, NR) July 26
In this screwball comedy, heiress Susan is determined to catch a stuffy paleontologist and uses her pet leopard, Baby, to help get his attention. Stars Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Charles Ruggles.
House of Wax (1953, PG) August 2
This original version of the spine-tingling thriller stars Vincent Price as the creepy curator of a wax museum who loses his beloved business to a fire and then rebuilds it. This time, though, he doesn’t use wax models, but a ghoulish alternative: dead bodies.
How to Steal a Million (1966, NR) August 16
Perfect for the entire family, this classic romantic comedy stars Audrey Hepburn as a woman who must steal a statue from a Paris museum—with the help of “burglar†Peter O’Toole—in order to conceal her father’s art forgeries.
L.A. Story (1991, PG-13) August 23
This widely acclaimed romantic comedy features unsolicited advice spelled out on a freeway traffic sign, tales of love won and lost, and an unconventional trip through the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It stars Steve Martin and Sarah Jessica Parker.
