Maggie fights off Mr. Teeny in The Simpsons Movie.
The Summer blockbusters are here and this is the best one of them all! Your all-time favorite dysfunctional family and the charming people of Springfield finally make it to the big screen and deliver the most wonderfully inappropriate, incredibly random, morally heart-warming and painfully hilarious Simpsons episode yet.
I’ve been a huge fan of television’s longest-running and most successful sitcom since my early days and growing up, I was heavily influenced by it’s incredible wit, charm, intelligence, realism, daring mockery and hilarious, outrageous and even controversial portrayals of the American family, society and pop-culture. I pay huge credit to the genius that is The Simpsons for inspiring my very own outrageous, inappropriate and yes, even at times controversial sense of humor. Ask my friends. They’ll tell you all about my potty mouth. It’s all in good taste. Hey,why take life so seriously, right? Pfft. C’mon Flanders, don’t be such a square.
Humiliated by his dad once too often, Bart turns to Ned Flanders to discover the pleasures of a pat on the back or a cup of hot cocoa. The movie displays heart without going soft: Its humor is rooted in observation, like the way Flanders builds that cocoa, from the steaming liquid and the whipped cream and wafer to a marshmallow, toasted, on top.
The Simpsons Movie is the marshmallow on top of this honorable, infectious franchise. The inspired vocal cast members, nearly all playing multiple roles, hit their comic beats and heartbeats simultaneously, whether Lisa is falling in love with an Irish boy who shares her devotion to music and the environment or Marge is wondering whether she can save her marriage.
Homer, of course, is the key. Without an ounce of cant or moralizing, The Simpsons Movie teaches him (and us) that no man is an island, even if he’s as big as one.
Without giving the entire film away, The Simpsons Movie is ripe with laugh-out-loud comedy, witty characters, surprising cameos, everything else you’d expect and much, much more. Go see it! It’s a spectacle. 4 out of 5 stars (Woo-hoo!).
Oh! Be sure not to miss the preceding movie trailers. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the teaser to The Dark Knight, sequel to the incredible Batman Begins. The surprising debut of the new Joker will make fans go wild. Also, be sure to stay for the end credits to witness Maggie Simpson say her very first word – ever.
The Simpsons Movie is now playing this weekend at theaters across America’s Finest City (San Diego) and everywhere else. See the trailer here at Apple.com
