Wal-Mart is venturing into a genre of toys usually left for the specialty shops. Now I know from shopping for toys for a young child you will notice that they become more violent or promiscuous. Some of the Bratz dolls are dressed with less clothing than most girls at a downtown club, and definitely more make-up. And boy’s action figures seem to come with enough weapons to start a small army. Wal-Mart has decided to hit the other end of the spectrum. Beginning this August you will be able to stroll down the isles of 425 Wal-Mart stores and find Tales of Glory by One2believe toys fighting for the attention of youngsters. The figurenes are based on biblical stories, and include such toys as 3-inch figure of Daniel in the lion’s den, a 12-inch talking Jesus doll and 13-inch Samson action figure. Before this announcement Wal-Mart had only carried religious stationary, books and Christmas themed items and One2Believe had only sold there toys strait to churches and religious camps.
We all know some children’s toys such as the Veggie Tales have religious undertones but do you think there is room in the Toy Box for such Faith Based toys? Would you have put down your Spiderman action toy or Barbie to pick up a talking Jesus doll?
