Much has been said about how David Beckham Coming to America. What effect he will have on the Major League Soccer is yet to be seen. In the meantime, millions of Americans (North, Central and South Americans) are already watching fútbol here on Sundays. And they will continue to do so even after David Beckham hangs up his jersey.
Mexico 3 to 1 win over Venezuela last month drew a record attendance of 63,000 soccer fans to Qualcomm Stadium, proving fútbol is big in America. The fan zone had live music, games, and free swag. Traffic and parking were a nightmare. The freeway was gridlocked and some people abandoned their cars on the spot and walked to the stadium. During the soccer match, two spectators decided to be part of the game and ran on the field. One of them took a swing at a Venezuelan soccer player. Moments later, he dove into the goal box before getting rushed away by security.
