The Swedish Models 6
The Swedish Models live at the Casbah on June 12, 2007

Following Sunday’s Independence Jam, on Tuesday I went to see The Swedish Models, The Vultures and The Muslims jam at the Casbah. The Swedish Models charged right out of the gate at 9:45p.m. with energy. These guys were prepared and came to play. Unlike Interpol who fumbled their opening on Sunday: “Please bare with us.” 10:05p.m. they got the sign to wrap it up, and they did with a 10 minute jam session that was awesome. I recommend you get with The Swedish Models. They are playing again on Wednesday, June 27 at the Casbah with The Mooney Suzuki and The Photo Atlas. Almost forgot, Andrew vocalist for The Swedish Models kind of looks like Matthew McConaughey, circa Dazed and Confused.

The Vultures

The Vultures were up next. They play harder and louder than the models. I posted front and center before they got started so i could get some good pictures. But, as soon as these guys started playing i got bumped out of the way by dudes who needed to be right up on the stage. Maybe they wanted to get wet or something, because the vocalist has a tendency to spit throughout the show. In between songs, he kept the crowd equally entertained with off the cuff comments. The vocalist for The Vultures kind of looks like Ewan McGregor.

The Muslims

The Muslims 4

The Muslims were up last and played as expected: awesome. I personally like their song “Brightside.” You can catch The Muslims tonight at Tower Bar with Desert Diamonds.

I went to the Casbah that night (per the suggestion on this site) and was very impressed with the bands and did not know that so many people are willing to go out and pay money for a show on a Tuesday night. I’m usually in PB for Taco Tuesdays.

Anyhow, The Swedish Models was a pretty random band, in a good way. With all that juxtoposition, I wonder who writes the songs? That guitarist, singer, keyplayer did look a lot like David Wooderson.

The Vultures was really thrashy and rough around the edges, but that drummer with the broken foot was tough. The singer didn’t seem like he was very nice, but that seems to be their thing.

The Muslims had a pretty linear, droney sound, nothing really jumped out at me, and the songs were not memorable, but a live CD of them would be a good alarm clock disc to wake up to.

Please keep me updated on any other rad shows.
