Street view of “The Big Squeeze” by The Art Guys on exhibition at MCASD Downtown / Photo by Victor Santana for SanDiegoish
Last Thursday, was the first Thursday of the month, so we had to go to TNT at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego downtown. First thing we see as we are walking towards the museum is a giant size penis with scrotum hanging on the wall. Closer observation reveled a giant running nose with a hairy nostril. The art piece is cleverly titled: “The Big Squeeze” by The Art Guys.
As you walked into the Museum, people were given the opportunity to write a message on a 3×3 square post it note. The post its were hung on a makeshift clothes line for people to read as they waited to get inside the museum.
The fist floor of the museum was filled with interactive art pieces. Looking at art can be cool, but playing with it is even cooler. We recommend that you go this month to MCASD. Upstairs DJ Contractor was spinning records. A table was setup for people to draw with crayons.
In the plaza, we got a chance to listen to the Kite Flying Society. They feel good music similar to the experience of flying a kite. I didn’t get a chance to see Swim Party, but I heard they “rocked it.” O yeah, and the Post It notes that i mentioned earlier where projected on to a giant screen behind the stage. Some of my favorites where: “I had sex with my boss,” “I came here with my husband’s best friend,” “I don’t understand art.”
TNT happens every first Thursday of the month at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego downtown, corner of Kettner and Broadway. Support the arts, support local music. Next TNT is on July 5th.
