The San Diego Latino Film Festival media conference on Saturday was packed with fans and media for Kate del Castillo. Kate was here to promote her latest project Trade, a film about a 13-year-old from Mexico City whose kidnapping by sex traffickers sets in motion a desperate mission by her 17-year-old brother to save her.

Kate was joined by her friend Aarón Diaz (CLASE 406) and Guy Ecker (Heridas de amor). For those of you who watch the NBC show Las Vegas, Guy Ecker played Detective Luis Perez. Kate and Guy were also in the 1998 remake of the novela La Mentira.

Kate, the latest Mexican novela actress to crossover into Hollywood, said she picked this film because of its sensitive subject matter: Human Trafficking. In Trade, Kate plays the role of Laura, a villainess. She said she had lots of fun playing a bad girl.

When asked about Salma Hayek and the other Latina actresses who came to Hollywood before her, Kate said “together we are changing the face of film in the U.S.”

Kate was asked if she thinks about how much of an impact the work she does will have? “I don’t think about it. I just show up and give my best effort.”

Kate said she likes making movies because she has opportunity to play different types of roles. In Mexico, she always played the good girl in all the novelas she did.

When asked if she could see her self doing television again, she said yes. “I love the small screen, just not interested in novelas right now.” Kate did say she would be interested in being part of a television series. She said there are a handful of good shows in U.S. and Mexico, but did not mention any by name.

In regards to goal setting, Kate said she had not set any goals in a longtime. She feels you can get lost in the mix of trying to achieve your goals. “I live day by day. I have dreams roles and projects, but i keep them to myself.

Kate del Catillo was passionate, professional and best of all respectful to her audience. Some of her fans even got a chance to take pictures with her.
