Friday San Diego CityBeat hosted their SummerBeat party at the Lafayette Hotel. The hotel, which looks like a southern plantation from the front, is on El Cajon Blvd and Louisiana St. next to the Red Fox Room. I’ve driven past this place a million times and never realized it was a hotel.

The party was in the hotel lobby, extending to the pool area, which was really cool. Our hosts provided an open bar for “VIPs”, which pretty much was everyone in the room from what i could tell. The wait for free beer was not to bad, getting a cocktail was not so easy.

The Fashion Show by Kate Ross, Pure, and Steady&UnSteady started around 8:20 and lasted about 40 minutes. The clothes and models were great, but the pacing of the show was way to slow.

“Unfortunately the city wouldn’t grant a performance permit, so the bands were canceled, but the fashion show took place as planned,” according to fellow blogger Rosemary from San Diego: Dialed In.

CityBeat picked the perfect location for SummerBeat. Unlike most hotels that tuck the party away in a hall–away from the guests–this party was front and center for everyone to experience.

There was an after party, but we didn’t stick around for it.
