Memorial Day 3 Wondering what to wear to that Memorial Day BBQ? The ultimate question is what can you wear that can achieve the balance between wanting to look cute and not looking so done up that holding a beer and eating a burger would look awkward? Of course it would be a low calorie beer and a veggie burger with no bun but still. what should you wear? A skirt is too dressed up and perhaps impractical for a casual backyard BBQ and blue short jean shorts run the risk of looking Mtv Spring Break Beach House circa 1998.

My recommendation? THE BOXY SHORT! Grab a pair of short boxy shorts and wear them with a wedged heel and a softer more feminine shirt for the perfect mix of casual, and fashionable. The cut of this seasons boxy shorts makes your legs appear slimmer which is never a bad thing. Choose a low wedge so you can stand for a couple hours and tackle all kinds of terrain a backyard throws at you but gives you enough lift to make your legs look toned. If you plan to go out that night bring a pair of heels to take the look strait to the club (and if you are like me bring an extra shirt in case you have a mustard accident).

For a classic short try ones from Alice + Olivia ($160-$195) they have several styles of short shorts. I love their linen shorts in white (bonus this makes you look tanner) If you haven’t been hitting the gym religiously to get bikini ready and you are scared to wear shorts choose a sailor style short in a dark color that hits a bit higher on the waist to hide those love handles with a shirt that isn’t too long. My favorite is the Frankie B Womens St. Tropez Shorts. If you don’t want to spend your paycheck on shorts try the sailor short from Express in black. ($34.95) or Forever 21 has tons of shorts in white with cuffs. Get a size bigger and add a sash belt to sinch them to create a boxier look as most of their shorts are a little tight
