The Chargers treated fans to a 52 – 21 win over the Denver Broncos tonight. Amazing. What else can you say about a team that had a record of 4-8 just 4 weeks ago. Perseverance and some help from other teams including the Broncos gave the Chargers one last opportunity tonight to punch their ticket into the playoffs and they rose to the challenge.

The offense was productive all the way around. Philip Rivers set the record for most touchdowns in a season with 34, overtaking Dan Fouts record. LaDainian Tomlinson had three rushing touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury. Darren Sproles had 2 touchdowns one in the air and another on the ground. Jacob Hester had a rushing touchdown and Nate Kaeding kicked a field goal. The defense did a great job of killing any momentum the Broncos were mustering when Luis Castillo picked off Cutler’s deflected pass and later when Paul Oliver picked one in the end zone.

If you were looking for the Chargers to avenge a loss to Denver earlier this season where the referees made some bad calls, this was as sweet as it gets. Philip Rivers will not be starting in the Pro Bowl in February but he will be starting in a playoff game next week in January and as he said “everyone is 0-0 now.”

The Chargers will face the Indianapolis Colts Saturday in San Diego at 5PM Pacific Time. Tickets will be available for purchase at the ticket office and online tomorrow. Go Chargers!!!
