The prize for being the worst team in baseball is the overall first round draft pick, and both the Padres and Nationals came into this weekends 3-game series with the worst record (58-95) in baseball. That is why the Padres weekend sweep of the Nationals (58-98), the last place team in NL East, was bitter sweet. It may have given the Padres bragging rights as being the best of the worst, but it probably cost the Padres the first round draft pick.

Now it’s safe to bet the Padres will play their hearts out to avoid 100 losses this season. The Padres open a 3-game series against Florida at home and close the season with a 3-game series at Philadelphia.

2 wins to avoid 100 losses. Go Padres!!!
