Summer Darling with Chikita Violenta at Beauty Bar Monday

By Kimmy McAtee · July 17th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Summer Darling is coming to San Diego for the first time Monday night with Mexico City’s Chikita Violenta. Although Chikita has been raved in big magazines like SPIN dubbing them Mexico City’s offer to “lush indie rock that’s actually more shimmer and less jammy” be sure to show up for the opener Summer Darling.

Based in Los Angeles Summer Darling began as a three piece indie pop band with emphasis on lyrics and melody. They have evolved over the years to become “simply one of the best bands in Los Angeles” according to LA Underground. With the addition of a drummer and the help of producer Frank Lenz (Pedro the Lion/Richard Swift) their new upcoming album “Good Feeling” is a semi autobiographical story of the struggle between alcoholism and disillusionment with the church that shows their more group oriented approach to making beautiful songs that not only hit lyrically but are amazing to listen to.

Check them out at the Beauty Bar Monday night or online at summerdarling.com or myspace.com/summerdarlingcheese

Beautiful, deep, melodic, and moving aren’t enough to describe what it feels like to see a Summer Darling show. Once you hear “Ride This Wave” you’ll want to be a groupie like me; it’s catchy and intense all at once. Plus they’re not bad to look at either, especially that Heather. Sexy as hell.
