Cocalero Poster If you haven’t had the chance to attend the San Diego Latino Film Festival Go! Go! Go! You will get a chance to meet, take a picture of, or get an autograph from some of the actors/actresses that are in San Diego to promote their movie. I was there last night and took a picture of the “Bichir brothers”. I took the time to watch “Cocalero”, a documentary in which the main character is Evo Morales, the actual president of Bolivia.

Morales is an indigenous from Bolivia and tri-lingual person. Before being a political figure he was a farm worker, and later moved to become a union leader.

The documentary is about the “Coca Leaf Movement”. It portrays how politics and the government tried to eradicate coca crops, which moves the whole city. An organized union formed by a federation of Bolivian farmers, fight to keep one of its main resources, coca leafs. “COCALERO” take us to the intimacy in which Evo Morales, takes a stand and talks to the press, the people and politicos. You can see and almost touch how these indigenous live, eat and fight; even though many of these people do not know how to read and write. Rifles or uniforms do not intimidate them. I was impressed and delighted how they live and fight for their rights.

Make the time to go and see one of these great documentaries or movies, you still have time, festival ends Sunday March 16. So make yourself an appointment and Go! Go! Go!
