If you ask Padres fans about Edgar Gonzalez chances are most fans had never heard of him until this spring. Adrian Gonzalez’ older brother Edgar has been playing minor league ball since 2001, but this maybe the year Edgar moves up to the Major League’s if he continues to impress with his utility and bat skills. The Padres gave Edgar a chance to prove himself in Spring Training and so far he is doing well.
Heading into Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks, the 29-year-old was hitting at a .636 clip with two doubles, a triple, one home run and six RBIs in his first 11 at-bats this spring. Better still, he’s played errorless defense everywhere the team has put him.
