The Union Tribune recently highlighted some food safety violations at San Diego restaurants, targeting fine dining establishments in their special report.
If you are like me and don’t bother looking for the grade in the window when you walk into a restaurant, you can lookup the food safety rating of any San Diego restaurant on the San Diego Department of Environmental Health website. Unlike the grading system in most US schools, a food safety grade of C means the restaurant failed the inspection.
Let us know how your favorite restaurant fared.
San Diego County’s Grade Card System
San Diego County requires all restaurants to post an “A”, “B” or “C” card in the front window. The grade reflects the food safety and sanitation level during the last inspection. An “A” grade means the facility earned a score of 90 to 100 points and is in substantial compliance with state law; a “B” means the facility earned a score of 80 to 89 points and needs significant improvement in operations and/or structure; a “C” means the facility earned a score of 79 points or less and is a failing grade.
