YouTube Video: Baltimore Cop vs. Skater

By Mario Lozano · February 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Baltimore police officer Salvatore Rivieri was suspended after the video surfaced on YouTube showing him pushing 14-year old Eric Bush to the ground. Officer Rivieri appears to approach Bush because he is skating in a prohibited area. Officer Rivieri then goes off on a rant after Bush calls him “dude.” Rivieri continues to rant as he demands respect from Bush by yelling at him some more. Question: was officer Salvatore Rivieri simply handling the situation the “Western District Way?”

The expression comes from HBO’s The Wire, a police drama series set in Baltimore Maryland, used by Western District police officers to describe their zealous use of strong force. The Wire is one of television’s most critically acclaimed programs. It’s better than the Sopranos.

The cop was too tough on the skater punk but the little skater needs to learn some respect for grownups and cops. Hopefully this kids mom will bust her kids ass for skating somewhere he was not allowed. The cop did a good job.
