d30d6ad07b.jpgIt’s Rainy and cold here in San Diego. If you want to get cozy up at the fireplace… but like most San Diegans don’t have a fireplace - hit the bar. All tips courtesy of the Bargoer, the semi-regular newsletter from Live Wire & Whistle Stop bars. To get the bargoer just send em an email at contact@whistlestopbar.com.

Red Sails Inn - landmark for those in Pt. Loma and Shelter Island area. Long bar with a view of the fireplace that is in the dining room. Call ahead to make sure they got it turned on. Good for bloody mary breakfast too. 2614 Shelter Island Drive

Brigantine - Another Shelter Island landmark. The fireplace at Brig is always on and its a beauty, even has a iron pot hanging in the flames. This one is right across the street from Red Sails Inn, so you can do a fireplace bar crawl. 2725 Shelter Island Drive SD CA 92106

NU-Nu’s - This place is often too crowded to realize they have a cool mid-century style metal fireplace right next to the door. Does it work? You’ll have to call but the when its on it lights up the place so nicely you never want to leave. 3537 5th ave
SD CA 92103 619-295-2878

Fish Market- Usually when its raining you just want to see the fireplace not the rain. This place is an exception. Nice big fireplace in the bar and big windows overlooking the bay so you can watch the rain clouds roll. 750 N.Harbor Drive SD CA 92101
619-232-3474

Ortega’s Mexican Bistro - Hillcrest - real tasty restaurant on its own but it also has a cozy hidden lounge w/ a modern hip raised fireplace. The tequila will warm you up more… 141 University Ave SD CA 92103
