It is not even December and we have made it through “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” People love to shop and even if you can’t afford to, you wish you could. I have decided to pitch some non-conventional gift ideas for music lovers. If you are going to give a gift, it may as well be personal, well thought out and cool. Unless of course, you are going to a White Elephant gag-gift party wearing the ugliest Christmas sweater known to man, then by all means hit up Imagination or the 99 cent store.
Looking for a unique gift to find someone that is into vinyl and is practical yet eclectic? I love recycled art. Designer Jeff Davis has put a new spin on recycling by using records and creating them into bowls and serving trays. He uses 12″ vintage vinyl to create the pieces. You can choose from different genres of music.
Give the gift of choice. Buy gift certificates to their favorite record store!!! This way, you won’t get scolded for buying a bands terrible sophomore album because the person you bought the gift for really wanted the 1st or 3rd album they put out. Here are some of my favorites local record shops:
M-Theory Musicc

San Diego, CA
(619) 220-0485
Thirsty Moon Records
525 ‘A’ Evans Place

(619) 542-1500
Off The Record
2912 University Ave
San Diego, CA
(619) 298-4755
Lou’s Records
434 North Coast Highway 101
Encinitas, CA
(760) 753-1382
Record City
3757 6th Ave
San Diego, CA

Next up, some bling for your bunny. You can find some music related jewelry online at Musician’s Friend. I am sure there are some designers locally that have managed to come up with similiar ideas - I have seen guitar pick earrings and my friend Malia makes purses with records on them. I will let Kimmy give you the scoop on that.
Until then, check out the Silver 45″ adapter pendants by Jeffrey David.
For those on the go, XM radio (Beyond AM and Beyond FM) has released the portable Delphi Xpress RC

I don’t know about you, but over the past decade, I have collected quite a few ticket stubs from various concerts and shows. At gifts.com you can purchase a Ticket Stub Diary. This is a great gift for someone that is trying to get organized.

For the music “Know-it-all” there is the ‘Rock Snob’s Dictionary’.

Parents that want to turn their little rockers onto something other than the piano, drums, bass or guitar – hook them up with a unique musical instrument such as the accordian. You can find them at Target.![]()
Give the gift of knowledge. If you aren’t lucky enough to know someone that offers music lessons and you feel your attempt to teach yourself is just not cutting it, there is a website called privatelessons.com where you can find a teacher. Buying a person a few music lessons can change their life.
If you know someone that makes great mixed cd’s and all they would use a printer for is to make those cd’s custom, here is a cool way to get it done without taking up a lot of space. Check out the Thermal printer to make your custom CD-DVD.

And of course those that aren’t deathly serious about spinning records, yet love to mix the vinyl up with their cd collection, Crosley has a recordable turntable that is very useful for sharing those rare collections. You can find it at Brookstone.

I could go on, but I am sure this is enough information to get your mind reeling about what to buy that music junkie. Enjoy!
