San Diego Trolley slammed into a Nissan Xterra before 5p.m. today as the driver of the SUV ran the light at the intersection of Market and 12th street, according to an eyewitness. “The light turn yellow and the driver hesitated before going for it — and that is when the trolley slammed into the SUV. He is lucky to be alive,” said man on the street. Driver was taken away in a gurney wearing a neck brace.
Both Orange and Blue lines were stopped in their tracks as emergency response crews scrambled to provide medical care to the driver and investigate the scene of the accident.
Personally, I always make it a point to drive slowly across the tracks on J and 12th because their are no lights and no gates alerting you of an approaching trolley.

Isn’t that one of many intersections without the bars that come down to let people know the trolley is coming? I just think the City is to lazy to them up in that part of town. You never know how many dumb people are in San Diego that don’t realize that trolley tracks and a yellow/red light means accidents.

Trolley wins again! The first day we rode the trolley I recall seeing people trying to beat it across the tracks, that was over 25 years ago. Some things never change…
