Padres vs Rockies Today in National League Wild Card Playoff

San Diego Padres
At the beginning of September, who would have thought the Padres would be facing the Colorado Rockies today in game 163 to determine the winner of the National League Wild Card berth? Nobody!

With the Padres losing Saturday (3-4) and Sunday (6-11) to the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Rockies holding on to beat the Diamondbacks Sunday, the Padres and Rockies are tied in the NL Wild Card race. That is why both teams will play game #163 today.

Forget about watching Monday night football tonight, tune in to Monday afternoon baseball at 4:37PM PT on TBS as the Padres play the Rockies at Coors Field in Colorado. The Padres will put Jake Peavy (19-6, ERA 2.36) on the mound, while the Rockies Josh Fogg (10-9, ERA 4.79) is set to pitch. Peavy is 10-1 in his last 13 starts giving the Padres an edge as both offenses are equally matched.

If there is any Karma for the Chargers sad start this year, the Padres will win tonight and do well throughout the playoffs. It has been a bad September for San Diego sports fans, and the Padres are well aware. USA Today quotes Peavy:

”I think the spirits and the mood right now is a little downtrodden, but we’re going to get it up,” Peavy said. ”I’m not going to let this happen (Monday). I can promise you it’ll be a new day, the boys will be excited. I mean, this is why we play the game.”

Oddsmakers have San Diego listed as a -136 money line favorite, they believe in Peavy and the rest of the Padres too.
