Friend of SanDiegoish in L.A. sent us a note about MTV’s new episode of “True Life: I Live on The Border,” which documents the “culture clash on the border between the U.S. and Mexico.” Naturally, I was curious since we live on the border.
Saw the trailer and thought: “I’ve seen this already.” Maybe I have, or maybe it just feels that way because they used the same tired format, which might explained why I was not wowed.
So, what could MTV had done better? They could have made better television by taking footage from Fox News or CNN’s Lou Doubs, which push for closed borders, and mash it up with local Tijuana news footage, which shows the violence on the border, the daily struggles of Tijuanenses living on the border, and the lives of immigrants making their way to the U.S. Actually, one can make their own mash up with a TV that has picture-in-picture capabilities.
I don’t watch much TV, but I am sure I will catch “True Life: I live on the border” by next week as it goes into infinite rerun on MTV.
Watch the video and tell us what you think.
