Padres Swept by Rockies, Milton Bradley Injured

What a tough weekend to be a San Diego sports fan, we’ll get to the Chargers loss next.

Padres Lose Sight of 1st Place

The Padres had won 7 games in a row, and were 1/2 game off first place until they faced off against the Rockies Friday night for a three day series. Friday night the Padres lost 2-1, Saturday night the Padres lost 6-2, and yesterday they lost (7-3) more than just the game.

Mike Cameron Day to Day

In Sunday’s game, Padres Milton Bradley stepped on Mike Cameron’s hand when both players chased down a ball. Cameron left the game with a swollen hand and is listed as day to day after an MRI showed no damage.

Milton Bradley

Brian Runge the home plate umpire asked Milton Bradley in the eight inning if he flipped his bat towards after striking out in the fifth inning. Bradley denied it, exchanged a few words with the umpire and made it to first base on a single. Then Bradley asked first base umpire Mike Winters if he suggested he threw his bat at the home plate. Winters responded and Bradley was upset and speaking at Winters while staring at home plate. Winters said something that enraged Bradley and Padres first-base coach Bobby Meacham attempted to restrain Bradley, and then Bud Black ran onto the field to calm his player down so he would not be suspended and in the process the two spun around and Milton Bradley’s knee was injured.

So what did Mike Winters say?

Not sure, but MLB.com got a quote from Bobby Meacham that favors Milton Bradley’s side of the story.

“Everyone is going to make a twist that Milton Bradley blew up again,” Meacham said. “This kid [Bradley] is doing a great job holding it together. He’s not going to get thrown out because he knows his team needs him. But there’s no possible way a man is going to stand there and take what he said to Milton.

“In 26 years of baseball, I couldn’t believe my ears the way that he spoke to Milton. [It] was so disrespectful, so angry, so vindictive. The boiling point is when he called Milton a name. Milton did not saying anything to him to get him to do that.”

1/2 Game Ahead in Wild-Card Race, 2 1/2 Games Behind First

With six games left, and some late injuries the Padres need to practically win it out to ensure making the playoffs. Never a dull moment in September.

San Diego Chargers and Padres are notorious for providing us with eventful regular seasons leading into the post season playoffs. And for that I thank them. Unfortunately, they have also the mastered the art of choking. At this point they have choked so many playoffs, world series, and super bowls that we expect the worst from them and hope for the best. Go Chargers! Go Padres!

Side Note: Saturday we bumped into Trevor Hoffman at the Red Bull Air Race World Series. We got a picture of him watching the competition, which we will include with our Red Bull Air Race post.
