Video: We Have Ignition! NASA Tests a New Rocket

NASA recently tested their new rocket engine in the Mojave Desert, which runs on compressed liquid methane. One advantage over conventional rocket fuel is that liquid methane is found on several planets including Mars. According to Wired News: “Those glowing figure eights in the blast stream are called Mach disks, after the guy who lent his name to the speed of sound.”
